Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 To Finish In Galway
The newly published course calendar for the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 will see Galway hosting up to 5 days of in-port racing and festivities at the end of the race.
The Galway finale will mark the first time the race has finished with an in-port race, giving teams a chance to add valuable points to their overall scores.
The start line for the next Volvo Ocean Race is in Alicante, Spain on 28th October and the final leg of the race will leave Lorient on Sunday 1st July, 2012 and are expected to arrive in Galway on Tuesday 3rd July, 2012.
The Teams so far this year are from: Ireland, France, Italy, Abu Dhabi, US/German and are awaiting details from other syndicates
The last stopover in Galway was a huge sucess with teams all receiving a very warm welcome in the early hours of the morning and festivities (and sunshine) were had for two weeks while they were in Galway.
