One Of The Most Beautiful Places In Ireland Is Set To Become A Children's Wonderland.
Over the last few months, furniture design students of GMIT Letterfrack have been designing and making outdoor children's play pieces for the Kylemore estate. The project is part of Kylemore Abbey's commemorations of the 100 year anniversary of the death of Mitchell Henry, the man who built the castle at Kylemore. The "Mitchell Henry Children’s Play Trail" is being installed on the estate this month and will be officially opened 27th May. The play trail will feature a range of delightful, interactive furniture from miniature picnic benches to musical instruments, suitable for all ages. Each piece has been crafted from wood which has fallen naturally on the estate and some of the wood comes from trees which were planted by Mitchell Henry at the time the castle and walled garden were built.
“The play trail is a highly visual and interactive addition to the Kylemore estate. It ties together the memory of Mitchell Henry, the Connemara landscape, the formal abbey grounds, the Benedictine order of nuns, their ethos and the creativity of the young and eager design students, studying locally.” Tutor Anthony Clare, GMIT Letterfrack
