National Bike Week 14th June - 21st June

 The first National Bike Week takes places from 14th to 21st June 2009 and will be marked by a series of nationwide events organised by cycling groups, communities and local authorities.


The Galway Programme for National Bike Week was officially launched earlier this week by the Mayor of the County of Galway Cllr Peter Feeney and The Mayor of Galway City Cllr. Padraig Conneely.

The programme caters for cyclists of all age groups and features events such as a Cycling Fair hosted by NUI, Galway on June 16, Cycle to Work Day on June 17, a Cycle Safety Initiative by An Garda Siochána an Off the Beaten Path leisurely cycle on June 21, a Bike Rental Initiative and a Cycling Treasure Hunt for all the Family which also takes place on Sunday June 21. 

All events in the joint programme for Galway City and County are free and new, moderate and experienced cyclists are invited to participate in the range of events on offer. In particular, Council staff are invited to participate in the various events and where possible are invited to support Cycle to Work Day on Wednesday, 17th June 2009.
