Joyce Country Prepares To Host Walking Festival

A celebration of the natural landscape of Joyce Country around Tourmakeady, Maam, Cornamona, Clonbur, Clochbreac, Finny and Cong runs from this Friday to Sunday with a series of walks, talks, artistic, musical, cultural and other outdoor activities showcasing what the region has to offer.
The official opening will take place this Friday in Halla Tuar Mhic Eadaigh. That will be followed at 8.30pm by a talk on “Aspects of our place name with examples from South Mayo” from Fiachra MacGabhann.
Registration for all walks on Saturday will take place at The Clonbur Community Centre. This will start at 9:00am for Level Five walkers; 9.30 for Level Four walkers, 10:00am for Level 3 walkers and 11:00am for level 1 and level 2 walkers.
Registration pack to include History of Joyce Country, list of activity/ operators, clár programme and a choice of eight maps for self guided walks.
On Sunday, the events include the Loop of Clonbur and Cong 10K Road Race.
Other activities include an art exhibition, creative writing workshop, farmers market, outdoor theatre presentation, and the Quiet Man tour.
