About Renvyle

Watching the sunset on a fine Summer's evening from Renvyle Point as the sun slowly turns the sky crimson and violet behind the ruins of Renvyle Castle is as beautiful a sight as you might see.

Renvyle is home to spectacular beaches in particular the 'white strand', a long expanse of white sand with stunning views across the aquamarine ocean that would rival any beach worldwide. This magical place has inspired writers and artists and draws them back again and again, some have settled in the area. The historic Renvyle House Hotel has provided a base for various poets, writers and artists down through the centuries. It continues to inspire visitors to this day and is truly a stress free zone where you can partake in leisurely walks, a round of golf or try your hand at some fly-fishing and then sample its award winning afternoon tea in front of cosy turf fires.

De-stress even further with a local massage, reflexology or reiki session. Catch a music session in the hotel bar or a quiet meal before retiring to any number of accommodation options available in the area including Bed & Breakfasts, Self-Catering, Caravan & Camping or the Hotel.

History

Renvyle Peninsula is steeped in history and archaeological sites. From a Bronze Age Solar Calendar, one of the finest 4,000 year old forests entombed in peat in Europe , the O'Flaherty Castle which was once home to the Pirate Queen Grace O'Malley

(Grainuaile ). Renvyle House was once home to the Blake Family and then to poet, statesman and surgeon Oliver St. John Gogarty and was a favourite retreat of poet W.B. Yeats at the time.

At Renvyle there are the cleanest of beaches, beautiful walks along quiet country roads and gentle hills. There are lots of things to do in addition to walking whilst on the Renvyle Peninsula and these include archaeological sites consisting of of Kanrawer - well of the Seven Daughters, Portal Dolmen at Cashleen, the Church of the Seven Daughters at Cashleen, Ardnagreevagh Chamber Tomb and the Stone Alignment on the road to Derryinver, fishing (fresh water lake & deep sea), golf (9-hole course), safe beaches for swimming or body boarding, scuba diving, horse riding and health and beauty treatments, boat cruises and much more. Much of this area is designated a Special Area of Conservation and is therefore unspoiled by large developments.

•  Renvyle Castle - O'Flaherty Clan, Grainuaile, Pirate Queen's former home

•  Film Locations

•  - The "The Taxi Mauve " (" Un Taxi Mauve "), 1977, starring Charlotte Rampling and Fred Astaire

•  ' The Seventh Stream ', a Scott Glenn film which was filmed in the Renvyle Area. This is Tully Village reformed for the film, filmed in 2001
